San
Diego, California - December 20, 2002 - Nearly 40 percent of
the nation's fourth graders are not reading at basic grade level.
In the poorest schools, nearly 70 percent of the students fail the
National Assessment of Educational Progress test. In San Diego County,
about 143,000 school-age kids are reading below grade level. A free
reading clinic will be held Saturday, February 8, 2003 from 10 a.m.
to 12 p.m. to help teach parents how to help their kids improve
their reading skills and boost school performance.
Phonemic
trained instructors will cover topics such as pre-reading, concepts
of print, decoding skills, developmental levels, proper questioning,
predicting, plus other instructional and coaching techniques.
The
clinic will be held at UROK Learning Institute in Mission Valley,
located at 2655 Camino Del Rio North, Suite 115, in the same parking

February's
course launches the first monthly clinic. UROK Learning Institute
