San
Diego, California -
January 1 2011 - Nearly 40 percent of
the nation's fourth graders are not reading at basic grade level.
In the poorest schools, nearly 70 percent of the students fail the
National Assessment of Educational Progress test. In San Diego County,
about 143,000 school-age kids are reading below grade level. A free
reading clinic is held Saturdays, to help teach parents how to help their kids improve
their reading skills and boost school performance.
Phonemic
trained instructors will cover topics such as pre-reading, concepts
of print, decoding skills, developmental levels, proper questioning,
predicting, plus other instructional and coaching techniques.
To make a reservation or for
more information, please call 619-299-2282.
February's
course launches the first monthly clinic. UROK Learning Institute
will sponsor the workshop. UROK is one of the county's reading invention

and their children improve their reading, as well as kids in schools
