IS LITERACY
LINKS RIGHT FOR YOUR CHILD?
Does your child
have difficulty reading?
Is comprehension a problem? Could your child be a better speller?
Does your child lack confidence in school? Are reading problems
affecting other school subjects?
If these problems
sound all too familiar, look into UROK Learning Institute and its
phonemic-based Literacy Links program. Developed by Calgary Academy
in Alberta, Canada, Literacy Links engages children in an interactive
program that gives them the power to read.
A typical Literacy
Links candidate is Taylor, a 4th-grade student. Due to reading difficulties,
Taylor’s parents have had her on a home reading program for the
past three years. She works hard in class, but reads only at a 2nd-grade
level. Her parents and teacher notice that when Taylor reads out
loud, she doesn't follow the printed text on the page. She seems
to be unaware that she reads words incorrectly. Rather than decode
words, she relies upon other parts of the sentence to provide context
and meaning clues that allow her to fill the gaps with words she
makes up. Taylor knows she is lagging behind her classmates in reading.
She is frustrated and refers to herself as a “bad reader.”
Taylor’s example
may not exactly describe your child’s situation. Symptoms vary,
but if your child shows any signs of reading difficulty, you’ll
want to investigate UROK Learning Institute. Preliminary testing
will determine whether or not Literacy Links offers help for your
child’s reading problem.
