UROK places an emphasis on Reading and Mathematics Intervention for grades K-12, and instruction can be offered one-on-one, in a small group (up to 1:5), or in a large group (up to 1:10), based on request. Program specifics and hours can be designed to meet all budget requirements and each individual district’s needs. UROK Learning Institute has experience providing services in the student’s home, at local libraries, local community centers, school sites, or any other location designated by the parent or school district. Services are also available for students who are English learners (EL) or in Special Education, with an IEP or 504 Plan, in order to provide the necessary modification for ensured success.

Each contract program includes instruction provided by qualified staff and all materials used by the student during his/her program, from work books to the academic tools necessary for implementation. Moreover, our full-service program includes assessment at the beginning of service and at the conclusion of the program to measure growth, with ongoing assessment throughout to provide modifications to the program as needed. District personnel, teachers, parents, and students are informed regularly of student progress and performance through monthly progress reporting.

Documentation and reporting, such as daily attendance reporting, record retention, auditing, and invoicing are included in the program package, as well, streamlining the process for each respective client and providing the relevant data needed for state and federal mandate compliance.

All curriculum and supplemental materials used are aligned to California’s Common Core State Standards and have been selected for their effectiveness in teaching students the fundamental skills necessary to succeed.  Our research-based Literacy Links Program focuses on the fundamentals of functional literacy and emphasizes phonemic production rules and phonics, increasing recognition of the sound-to-symbol connection. Grade-level reading material is utilized to promote fluency and comprehension skills, with incorporated review and assessment. In addition to Literacy Links, we also utilize a program called REWARDS.  This program is tailored to fit students with a higher skill set who already have a mastery of phonics.  It challenges them to dissect multi-syllabic words by learning to recognize common prefixes and suffixes, as well as build reading accuracy, fluency, and comprehension.  The REWARDS Plus programs continue to build fluency, but also include a writing component, with a focus on content-area text.  REWARDS Writing teaches critical writing skills, including sentence fluency, word choice, and sentence revising strategies, while giving valuable practice in writing.

The Discovery Journaling Program aims to help students master writing fundamentals.  Discovery follows a defined scope and sequence of training with reinforcement and new concepts introduced weekly throughout 36 individual lesson plans. Students learn an array of writing fundamentals through activities such as writing informative/explanatory texts; writing narratives; writing exercises, which reinforce proper grammar; and exercises which practice on-demand writing skills. Throughout any phase of the program, additional ELA material can be integrated into the lessons.

We are also offer educational services in Mathematics. Students complete an online diagnostic assessment and assignments are generated at each student’s level.  The Accelerated Math instruction is focused on filling the skill gaps necessary to succeed in mathematics.  As with any intervention, the skills mastered are transferable and lead to increased results on the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASP).  Additional support and review are provided during each session with students.

With this being said, program parameters and elements can be designed and modified to meet the needs of each student and the requests or requirements of the school district.
